Unit 2: Strategy and Writing Behavioral Statements
Lesson 7: How will you measure the behavior?
The final variable is data. This is specific and in the language of the business, because it is how we are specifically going to define the behavior internally. It should be as complete as possible, such that I could make a SQL query out of it and it would work.
Talking about behavior can get vague very quickly and we often reach premature alignment; “take an Uber” can mean very different things to different stakeholders. By arriving at a singular definition, you can make it clear to both stakeholders and team members what success means.
Small changes in this variable can make big differences. If you measure “total number of rides in the last 30 days”, you’re inevitably going to build a product that focuses on a smaller number of high-frequency users. If you measure “total number of people who have ridden at least twice in the last 30 days”, you’re going to have a much more population app, with a wider base.
Activity:
Using the same product or service as the previous activities, identify Data that could measure the behavior.
Ware two different ways to measure the behavior?
How would they result in different products?
